Simple Tips For Finding A Profitable Niche

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

Ideally you should pick a niche with low competition and good profitability. But that’s not always an easy task. Some niches are very profitable (like Internet marketing, gambling, debt consolidation…), but they are also highly competitive and if you are new or relatively new to Internet marketing, I strongly recommend you select a less competitive niche. Other niches have almost no competition, but unfortunately there is also no money to be made in.

So, here are some tips to help you pick the right niche:

* First of all, I suggest you pick a niche you are really interested in – this will make your job much easier and you will also have much more fun.

* Check out the number of Adwords Ads on Google for your main keywords. If no or only a few ads show up then this might mean that there is no money to be made in your niche. On the other hand, if more than 30 ads show up then this indicates that your niche is highly competitive and making any money in it could be quite difficult. Ideally, there should be something like 5 – 30 ads for your main keywords.

* A somewhat crowded niche might be better than an almost empty one, because it will be easier for you to find JV partners and affiliates. Also, a healthy competition indicates a good profit potential.

* Check the prices for your Google Adwords. If they are ridiculously high it might be very difficult to get any return on your investment. Let’s assume you are trying to sell a $19 eBook and you would have to pay something like ~ $3 per click for your keywords – making any money with this campaign would simply be impossible.

So, make sure your niche offers enough cheap keyword phrases to bid on. When determining the price for your keywords, don’t worry too much about the general keywords – they are almost always expensive and usually they don’t convert very well, because they are not targeted enough.

Do you have a customer list?

Wednesday, January 3rd, 2007

When it comes to list building, most people build only one list – let’s call it prospect list. This however doesn’t allow you to market & sell your product effectively.

Once someone subscribes to your list you may want to immediately start marketing a front-end product using a pre-defined sequence of autoresponder messages.

For example:

* Message 1 could provide more details about the product with a list of benefits and a call to action (to buy your product).

* Message 2 could offer a bonus gift if the prospect buys within the next 24 hours

*Message 3 could offer a 30% reduction in price… and so on, you get the idea.

Now imagine, someone subscribes to your list and immediately buys your front-end product (which you could offer on the subscriber thank you page). It would be quite annoying if this person receives all your “prospect” follow-up messages: get a bonus, 30% reduction, grab a pack of 5 great bonuses with the main product…

Your customer will be confused and most likely he will never again buy from you. To avoid this embarrassing scenario, you have to build a customer sub-list.

Here is what you should do:

* Entice your site visitors to subscribe to your main list on your landing page – this will be your prospect list.

* As soon as someone from your prospect list buys your product (be it after the first or the 10th follow up message…), get him/her to subscribe to your customer list. For example, ask this person to provide his first name and email address before you provide access the download page.

* At the same time, you have to delete the customer from the prospect list. Most good autoresponders like AWeber and GetResponse can handle this automatically for you.

That’s a neat way to pull your customers from your initial prospect list to your customer list where you can get them to take a different sort of action – maybe, buying one of your backend products. ;-)
