A Powerful Keyword Search Strategy To
Outsmart Your Competition

Find Out How You Can Get Tons Of
Amazing Internet Marketing Products – For FREE!

In the previous section, you selected three themes for your site. Now, it’s time to evaluate the profitability for each of your site concepts and therefore you need a first-rate keyword search strategy.

For a profitable site concept, you will find many keywords with high demand (that means, lots of people are searching for these words or phrases, which allows you to drive tons of traffic to your site) and low supply (that means, the competition is low and you have a good chance to dominate your niche).

Also, your keyword list acts as the blueprint for your site. Later on, you will create a web page for each of your keywords. Every single page focuses only on one specific keyword (these pages are called Keyword Focused Content Pages -- KFCP’s) and all these pages together build a Theme Based Content Site (TBCS).

Generating your keyword list -- what’s the best keyword search strategy?

The quickest and easiest way to accomplish this task is to use Brainstorm It! This tool is part of the Site Build It! eCommerce suite and allows you to:

Find hundreds of keywords for your site concept -- quickly and easily.

Get demand and supply data for all of your keywords -- while you
      have a cup of coffee.

Helps you to evaluate the profitability of your site concept.

Helps you to plan your monetization mix.

Refine and optimize your final site concept…

If you aren’t using Site Build It!, I recommend Search It! This is a free tool that allows you to perform all kind of searches -- it’s probably the only search utility you will ever need -- and to brainstorm a list of specific keywords with demand data.

Search It! Keyword Search Tool

Here is a short explanation, how to use Search It! For your keyword search strategy: In step one, select "Brainstorming", in step two, select "Yahoo! Keyword Selector Tool", type your concept keyword (for example, fender guitars) into the textbox under step three and click the "Search It!" button.

Overture Keyword Search

Now you should see a new window with a list of keywords that are related to your search term (I used "fender guitars" in the example above) and their demand data.

Copy this information into an Excel spreadsheet, or into a text document (use notepad, word…) to start your keyword list. In the search results, you will always get some irrelevant and nonsense keywords -- delete them straight away.

Also, be careful with keywords that show extremely high demand. These are usually very general keywords and it’s nearly impossible to get a high search engine ranking for them.

For instance, I wouldn’t keep the keyword "string instruments" for the Fender Guitars" site concept -- it’s too general to be won over. To grow your list, you should perform additional searches. For the above example, we could try: "electric guitars", "cheap guitars"… -- and don’t forget to keep it "narrow".

Getting supply data

Ok, so far our keyword search strategy helped you to gather a big list of specific keywords with demand data. The next step is to get the supply information for each of your keywords in order to evaluate their profitability potential.

Remember, a profitable keyword has high demand and relatively low supply. Again, Brainstorm It! makes it super easy to get this kind of information, but you can also use the Google search engine.

Just type each of your keywords (as an example, I used the keyword "fender electric guitar") into the search box and click the "Search" button next to it.

Google Keyword Search Strategy

Google displays the number of matching results in the top right corner (20700 in this example) – this is an indication of how many sites provide information for this specific keyword.

A high figure means lots of supply and competition. In order to learn how to properly estimate the profitability of your keywords, you should get demand and supply data for a big list of keywords.

Skip all those keywords with very low demand (~ less than 50) and very high supply (there are no hard and fast rules, but when the majority of your keywords are in the 1000’s and 10000’s, it’s probably a good idea to skip those ones that return over a million search results).

Choosing the best site concept

Using the keyword search strategy explained above allowed you to create a keyword list with demand- and supply data for your top 3 site concepts.

Now you have to pick the most promising one. Guidelines for a great site concept:

A big list of related keywords. If your search returned only 20 – 30
keywords, you better choose another site concept.

Your keywords must show sufficiently high demand. You should have at
least one keyword with a demand value bigger than 10000 (probably
your site concept keyword, “fender guitars” in the example above),
more than 2 keywords with demand values bigger than 1000 and at
least 30 keywords with demand values bigger than 100.

Many keywords with high profitability (high demand, low supply). For
example, your site concept might not be the best, if you have 2-3 very
high profitable keywords and the rest shows nearly zero profitability.

This keyword search strategy should help you to choose the most profitable site concept. Also remember, a keyword list is never finished, stay on the hunt and keep on adding new keywords -- use Search It! to make this task quick and easy.

Before jumping on a site concept and writing tons of content, find out first if the topic of your choice has good profit potential.

And that’s why you need a powerful keyword search strategy.

People must be actively looking for what you are providing -- high demand. And the competition shouldn’t be too severe - low supply - so that you have the possibility dominate your niche.
